The Cook Islands under 17 women’s soccer squad played a close game against Papua New Guinea in their second match at the Oceania Football Confederation U-17 Women’s Championships in Auckland on Tuesday.

Papua New Guinea scored first 25 minutes into the first half and again 10 minutes later.

With 15 minutes of play remaining, Tepaeru Toka scored a goal for the Cook Islands team to bring the score to two goals to one to PNG at half time.

In the second half PNG wasted no time and scored their third goal. The Cooks scored again through Tepaeru Toka with the score sitting at three goals to two. Both sides were determined, however the final whistle sounded for PNG to win their second game of the championship by three goals to two over the Cook Islands.

The Cook Islands will play their final match against New Caledonia today at 3pm (CI time) and this match is expected to be a close one.
