Arorangi managed to hold current competition leaders Tupapa Maraerenga to a 1-all draw in the Lotto Premier Mens match played at the weekend at Victoria Park.

In the first half of the match, although Tupapa were missing seven of their key players who are currently on international duties, Tupapa showed dominance on the field.

Early in the second half Arorangi capitalised on a defensive error by the Tupapa defenders and midfielder Sheik Shah scored from outside the penalty box, thus being the first to put a point on the score sheet.

However, Tupapa regrouped and continued their dominance in terms of ball possession and were rewarded with a goal through young Tamaiva Smith, who fired the equaliser with twenty minutes of play remaining.

Tupapa tried tirelessly to score another goal to win the match but Arorangi held their defence and the match ended with a 1-all draw. In the CIPS Image & Copy Centre womens championship, Tupapa defeated a determined Arorangi team by two goals to one.

Arorangi scored the first goal of the match through a penalty taken by defender Natasha Dean, however Tupapa was made to work hard and was rewarded with two goals by strikers Regina Mustonen and Rai Nganu.

Up in the valley, in the premier mens match, hosts Takuvaine defeated Avatiu by two goals to nil through a penalty taken by Ailaoa Samania and the second goal scored by striker Dave Tereapii. In the senior womens match Avatiu won four goals to nil.
