Arorangi and Muri set for battle royale

It’s going to be a hot one on Saturday – at least on the cricket field – as arch rivals Arorangi and Muri go head to head in an epic showdown for The Edgewater Resort and Spa Champions of Champions title for women’s cricket.

With a win and a loss against each other this season, the teams look relatively even on paper. The absence of Muri captain Punanga Kaveao will hurt the team a little this Saturday, however Muri has plenty of fire power left in top batters Matina Pittman, who has scored over 200 runs this season, and Makiroa Mato who scored over 100.

It will be no easy task for the Muri batters and they will have their work cut out for them especially in Katalina Ma and Dorothy Kiria who, statistically, have been Arorangi’s most effective bowlers this season, as well as 17-year-old Tikava Atiau.

In the absence of Kaveao Muri bowlers Almein Kekena and Lacynthia Rani prove statistically to be Muri’s strike bowlers leading the team’s wicket takers list. They will need to be primed and ready when they take on a tough Arorangi line-up that includes Kat Ma, Moeroa Matheson and Marion Larsen.

It’s time to rock and roll this Saturday. The Edgewater Resort and Spa women’s Champion of Champions match will be played at neutral territory Turangi under the watchful eyes of neutral umpires June George and Pavai Taramai.
