Aitutakis Araura College rugby sevens squad were crowned the inaugural Pacific Computers Under 15 Inter College Tournament champions in the boys division on Saturday.
In the under 15 girls category Tereora College were the undefeated champions. Araura College comprehensively defeated the Titikaveka College side 36-5 but Titikaveka upstaged their fancier counterparts from Tereora College in the gold point extra time during the semi finals clash to make it into the grand finals with Araura.
Players that stood out during the 2-day competition were Travel Tuaputa, Wiremu Sexton and Teariki Matenga of Titikaveka College.
From Tereora College, Helsam Teiti and Christian Toa were the outstanding players from the school while Teremoana Paerau, Engara Maoate and Leonard Roa were the stars in the champions Araura College side.In the girls division,Tereora College defeated a tenacious Nukutere side 34-0 in what was a hard fought grand finals match.
Girls from both sides have to be congratulated for taking to the field to play sevens with little experience behind them.
Despite the lack of experience, girls from both side showed fantastic raw skills.Stand out players in the girls division were team captains Teiti Tupuna (Tereora) and Paulina Ponga as well as Tu Te Maeva Poaru of the Tereora side.
