After an exciting and action packed cricket season, the Tautu Blues have emerged as the 2011 Aitutaki Cricket Competition champions.
The team is now on Rarotonga and keen to take on a main island selection made up of players from various clubs on Rarotonga in a 20-twenty match today at the Turangi Oval.
The Blues consistency on the pitch week in, week out has produced some outstanding results by the team that took out all the competition trophies including the champion’s trophy, round winner’s trophy, knockout trophy and the challenge cup.
Captain and Telecom national squad member Teararo Pokoina was in fantastic form during the season, notching up 380 runs from 8 games which included a barn storming 131 against Amuri to secure the championship.
Fellow Blues player Alex Roa was also a stand out for the team this season, scoring 210 runs including a fine innings of 107 runs.
Leading wicket taker for Tautu and the overall competition was the ever reliable Taoirangi Tanunu, who picked up an impressive 27 wickets for the season with his consistent line and length.
The Blues also recorded the highest score during the mid-week challenge cup.
This competition was run using a 12 over per team format, which in turn brought out fast and furious action and also quick results.
Tautu scored 240 runs with the loss of 8 wickets in their allotted overs, averaging 20 runs per over much to the dismay of the opposition bowlers.
Cook Islands Cricket would like to see everyone at the Turangi oval for what should be a great afternoon of cricket which starts at midday.
