In the Lotto Premier men’s main football match played at Raemaru Park on Saturday, host Puaikura drew against Tupapa Maraerenga with one goal apiece.

Puaikura scored first in the 15th minute with a penalty through Paavo Mustonen, much to the elation of vocal supporters.

Ten minutes later Tupapa Maraerenga equalised from a corner kick that found the head of Anthony Samuela.

Both teams tried to score to get in the lead but failed to with the half time score tied at one all.

In the second half Tupapa Maraerenga played a more attacking football and though they had scored their second goal in the 71st minute - it was disallowed by the match official for what he saw as an infringement.

Puaikura put on a very good defensive game and the match remained at one all with the final whistle sounding.

On Friday at the Takuvaine sports field the visiting Matavera premier men’s team defeated hosts Takuvaine by three goals to nil.

Matavera’s speedy striker scored a hat trick for his team, one in the first and the remaining two goals in the second half.

In the senior women’s championship between host Puaikura and Tupapa Maraerenga the match resulted in a three-all draw.

Puaikura drew first blood through talented Linade Unuka, however it was short lived when Tupapa youngster Moeroa Harmon equalised in the first half. Again Unuka scored her second goal just before the half time break to give Puaikura the lead.

In the second half Tupapa’s Rai Nganu levelled the score line at two all. Puaikura’s Linade Unuka scored a hat trick for her team to bring the scores to three goals to two; however Tupapa managed to sneak another goal in to level the score with the final whistle sounding.

In the other match on Saturday Nikao Sokattak suffered their first loss of the season against Titikaveka who won by two goals to nil. Both goals for Titikavkea came through Ani Piri and Louana Trego to claim their win against competition leaders Nikao Sokattak.
