Cook Islands tennis players Brittany Teei (left) and Davina Hosking-Ashford paired up to win the Auckland Spring Tournament Ladies Doubles at the Scarbro Tennis Centre at Glen Innes, Auckland recently.
After their doubles win – Teei went on to win the women’s singles open division. Because Teei won at the same event last year and went on to win the overall at the Australia open – she is not eligible to go any further in the series however Hosking-Ashford will go on to play the winner of the Canterbury qualifying.
The winner of this game will then go on to the Australian open to represent New Zealand. The Spring Tournament forms part of the Kia Amateur Australian Open 2011 Qualifying Series.
Both players represented the Cook Islands at last year’s Pacific Mini Games and won medals – as individuals and as a team.
Both Teei and Hosking-Ashford played two singles matches with Teei winning her first two singles match while Hosking-Ashford is still looking for a win in the singles division.
Paired up the duo put away opponents Kelly Drew and Lucia Young 6-4, 6-3.
They then met and beat Carli Davis and Mia Middleton 6-4, 7-6 (5) to win the women’s open doubles division.
