The inaugural CITC Constitution Sevens Tournament to be played between August 4 and 7 will be a preliminary national sevens trial.
After missing out on the international sevens circuit last year, the Cook Islands Rugby Union will begin this seasons campaign with a clean slate.
This means that every Cook Islands sevens player – both locally based and those overseas –have the same opportunity to shine and be selected in the national squad to represent the country at the sevens qualifier in October in Darwin.
The Constitution sevens tournament will be played at the Tupapa field and will include teams from the six clubs on Rarotonga plus a men’s team from Aitutaki.
National sevens assistant coach Vaivase Samania will select a local sevens trial squad to play their overseas counterpart and vie for spots in the final national team.
The final squad will be selected in September and they will prepare to qualify the Cook Islands to return to the international sevens scene.
