Week two of the CITC Rarotonga Club Sevens kicks-off again tomorrow, and this week will be hosted at the Takuvaine ‘Happy Valley’ Field.
After last weekend’s matches the pools will be slightly changed with the Panthers now in Pool B – the Panthers match-up against the Dragons should be very interesting for both teams.
The individual match-up between their respective point scoring-machines Sailosi Niagi (Dragons) and Conrad Piri (Panthers) will definitely affect the final outcome of this match – let alone their final Pool-placings.
In Pool A the Eels v Cowboys match between the arch-rivals should be a good-one to watch. Apart from their normal rivalry, the Cowboys will be out to prove that last week’s 5-all draw against the Eels in Pool play was no fluke – the Eels topping their Pool and then going on to win last weeks competition.
With competition points based on weekly consistency all teams will want to finish at the top end each week to ensure best placings at the end of the competition on Week 4. Some teams will also welcome back from Darwin national sevens reps Teina Savage, Tepou Taana and 18-year-old forward Kairan Mahia.
Most of the teams and players will also be in preparation-mode for the CIRU International sevens tournament to be played in early November. Best of luck to all teams this weekend.
