The recent four-week CITC Rarotonga club sevens competition has served well to prepare local teams for the big one – the Sevens in Heaven tournament starting next Thursday.
The largest field of 25 teams will take part in the three-day tournament which will see a total of 71 games played.
A record 16 men’s and nine women’s team will contest the tournament.
Unfortunately the first ever national women’s sevens team, currently on their first tour in Borneo, will not take on the women’s division as players will filter back into their club and social teams for the tournament.
After four weeks of rugby sevens – it was the slippery Eels that emerged winners of the local sevens circuit last Saturday.
Although they were beaten by the Tupapa Panthers in the grand finals game – a consistent campaign was the winning factor for the Eels.
Teams have less than two weeks to polish up their acts ahead of the biggest sevens tournament of the year.
The tournament will start with a team march at the BCI Stadium on Thursday November 4 at 1pm followed by the ANZ dash for cash charity run at 1.30pm.
The first game of the tournament will kick off that afternoon at 3pm.
Pool play games will continue on Friday 5th with games kicking off at 3pm.
It will be a full on day of sevens in heaven on Saturday 6th with games starting at 9.30 in the morning and wrapping up with the grand finals at 7.40pm.
