The annual Rarotonga five-a-side soccer competition kicks off today at the CIFA complex in Matavera.
The competition will run for over ten weeks and will wrap up with the knockout at the end of May.
Teams who will take part in the five-a-side soccer competition are looking forward to the matches today as they battle for the 2011 5-a-side Round and Knockout Cup.
Last year’s round robin champs, Black Puta, have returned again this year to defend their title along with seven other teams in the men’s division.
Those who have put up a challenge for both titles with Black Puta are Who Cares, All Stars, Maro Bhago, The Rock, Avatiu No Girls, Virgin Ave and Warriors.
In the women’s division six teams have registered their interest in this year’s five a side comp – White Fairies, Black Qwenz, Tic Taks, F.O.B, Avatiu No Boys and Zconi Rebels.
This competition will be vital for all players looking to be part of the Pacific Games soccer squad in both the men’s and women’s sides, as the competition will be used to prepare and to sharpen skills for the games.
