The annual Tin Man Triathlon turns 30 this Saturday and will be marked with a 1200m swim, 31km cycle and 10km run.
The annual race is a club race with no entry fees and will be held from the Tikioki tri site starting at 2pm.
The race is starting an hour earlier than usual so that athletes and supporters can enjoy the rest of the afternoon celebrating the event’s milestone at the prizegiving.
Athletes intending to race must be at the race site by 1.15pm to set up and get your names on the list either as an individual athlete or team.
Trophies will be awarded to the first man and woman across the finish line. Last year they were Roland Neururer and Kelly Pick.
The two top athletes are looking like they will take out the event again and will no doubt get stiff competition from the regular triathletes on the island.
Last year Neururer clocked the course in 1.53.13 with the men’s race record time of 1.49.14 set in 1990 by Bernard Wind.
Pick set the fastest women’s race time of 1.57.46 in 2010 before breaking that last year clocking a blistering 1.53.43.
As usual the Hash Esky will be at the ready for racers and supporters after the race for the normal debrief session.
