10 games medals, 7 athletes

Ten medals were hauled in by Team Cook Islands at the 9th Pacific Mini Games in Wallace and Futuna.

In total, the Cooks collected two gold medals, seven silver medals and one bronze.

Mauke golden girl Tereapii Tapoki picked up a gold medal in her preferred discipline of discus, and a silver medal in the shot put event.

Cook Islands national sprinter Patricia Taea made history by being the first Cooks sprinter to ever win a medal at a Pacific Games with her silver in the 200 metre sprints.

Luisa Peters won three silver medals in the weightlifting competition, lifting in the 75kg plus women’s division.

In sailing, Teau McKenzie won gold in the Womens’ Laser Individual event.

Taua Elisa and Junior Charlie received silver in the Mens’ Team Laser event, with Elisa also scoring a silver medal for his performance in the Mens’ Laser Individual event, and Charlie winning bronze in the same event.

The seventh member of the group of athletes was runner Alex Beddoes, who competed in the 400m and 1500m races.

Team Cook Islands has been trickling home following the event, with the sailors and the remaining team management arriving in Rarotonga early this morning.
