The Cook Islands Olympic sailing squad still has a chance for Olympic spots under the Tripartite Commission Invitation and is now preparing for the last competition of their campaign – the Sail for Gold event next week.

National sailors Helema Williams and Taua Elisa are continuing their training for tactics and techniques and their fitness programme at Lymington with Coach Ben Paton.

Lymington is close to Weymouth – the Olympic venue for sailing and therefore similar competitive conditions.

At the Royal Lymington Yacht Club Laser Grand Prix, a three race series – Elisa took the gold medal and Williams was fifth overall and first woman in the event.

”This was an extra opportunity for the team to compete and to take a break from competing in big fleets as all the recent competitions have been,“ says Paton.

”Both Helema and Taua enjoyed the scene and are feeling very good with this competition under their belts and it was very rewarding for all of us to see them take out these places.“

Final places for the Olympics will be announced on June 18.
