Kukis in China for 3×3 basketball champs
Terai Sadler – “Kia Orana, my name is Terai Sadler and I'm 23 years old. My mother is from the island of Mauke. I have recently finished playing four years of college basketball in the United States of America. I spent two years playing at a Junior College called Crowder College where I was named NJCAA 1st Team All-American my sophomore year. I then transferred to Division 1, University of Central Arkansas to play my final two years where we finished 2nd in our conference in my junior year. After University I returned to Christchurch, New Zealand and played for the Canterbury Wildcats. We went on to have an undefeated season and were named 2016 WBC Champions. I have also represented Taranaki in basketball and have played a season of basketball for Mildura Heat in the Big V league in Australia.” Adoniah Lewis – “Kia Orana, my name is Adoniah Lewis. My family are from Manihiki and Titikaveka with strong familial ties to Mangaia. I have played basketball since I was 8 years old. I have played representative basketball for Kaitaia, North Harbour and Waitakere at all age ranges in NZ basketball competitions. I have also had the honour of representing NZ at age group level. I attended College in the US where I played college basketball in Savannah, Georgia at Armstrong State University. I am currently based in Melbourne where I have just competed in the Big V competition playing for Werribee Devils.” Janet Main – “Kia Orana, my name is Janet and I am 27 years old. My father is from Manihiki and grew up in Aitutaki and Rarotonga. I have played basketball from a young age being involved in regional and national squads. I am a physiotherapist after having studied in Otago. I now work with the Junior Tall Ferns Basketball team as their Physio. This has kept me involved with the next generation of NZ representative basketball players. I'm excited for the opportunity to represent the Cooks and look forward to the challenge ahead!” Johaana Bates – “Kia Orana, my name is Johaana Bates. My grandmother is from the Ahsin family in Vaipae, Autitaki and my grandfather still lives up on his mountain in the small hut that he built in Arorangi, Rarotonga. I have played age group basketball for Rotorua, Counties Manukau and Canterbury. Last year while I was in the Cook Islands I played in the Cook Island games for Puaikura. For the past two season while living in Christchurch I played in the Canterbury Wildcats in the WBC. I also grew up in the New Zealand age group high performance program. Currently I am living in Japan. While I am over here I am studying towards a Bachelor of Health Science and playing basketball for both the Fujitsu Red Wave and Aoba Basketball Club.”
