SOLOMON ISLANDS – A fire has completely destroyed an old hospital in Solomon Islands. SIBC’s Sina Adrian, who witnessed the blaze, said the situation was one of despair as the only firefighter in Gizo, the capital of the Western Province, could do nothing to save the building or any equipment. Aidan said the fire quickly razed through the building’s main structure which will leave the Gizo hospital authority with millions of dollars in losses. “There were explosions coming from gas bottles and other things so it scared the public away from the burning building,” he said. Gizo police have confirmedthat a mentally challenged man is in police custody in relation to the fire. - SIBC
