Take heed

Saturday 13 October 2012 | Published in Letters to the Editor

Dear Editor, Whilst the Minister of Fisheries is to be congratulated on his willingness to seek an economic return from our vast but vulnerable fish resource, he should take heed of the concerns expressed not only by Reuben Tylor in his latest letter to CINews but also of many of his (the Minister’s) friends and supporters.

Call for public meeting

Wednesday 10 October 2012 | Published in Letters to the Editor

Dear Editor, Finance Minister Mark Brown is correct. The mess popularly called “Colagate” predates the current government. And the one before that, and the one before that... it has, in fact, spanned several governments.

Play the ball, not the man

Tuesday 9 October 2012 | Published in Smoke Signals

A smoke signaller writes: “Ad hominem attacks – the practice of hurling insults at an opponent [rather than answering their argument] – is the final refuge of someone who has no valid arguments. It is both unconvincing and, sadly, unfortunately revealing of the weakness of a debater’s position. It is the equivalent of a small boy hurling dog dung when he isn’t able to think of a verbal response. Teina Bishop last week and Mark Brown in his Saturday letter to the editor could not have done more to convince the public that the unimpressed voter scored a palpable hit with his (or her) letter.”

One by an anonymous Demo supporter who is ashamed of the way our country hosted the Pacific Islands Forum and another by Mr James Beer in a letter regarding the ongoing CITC soft drink import levy splitting.
