Dedicated Demos

Saturday 27 July 2013 | Published in Letters to the Editor

Dear Editor, The response by True Blue Demos (Taking a clear stand, July 24) to our letter calling on the Leader of the Opposition to explain the source of authority to commit our party to a ‘no coalition government policy’ was most disheartening and unsatisfactory, to say the least.

Fishing controversy a spectacle

Friday 26 July 2013 | Published in Letters to the Editor

Dear Editor, Reuben Tyler’s letter ‘Transparency and corruption’ in conjunction with your reporter’s article headed “Questions raised over Bounty sale”, both in the July 16 edition of CI News, takes the controversy on fishing in our national waters to a whole new level; it is no longer about fishing, it is about damaging Teina Bishop politically while he was off island and can’t defend himself, and a spectacle of the worst kind! Needless to say this attack on the Bishop overshadowed my own letter in the same edition of CI News ‘The best four dollar fish’, and good news that affordable and continuous supply of fish for our people may be just around the corner, which of course has been the objective of the Bishop and MMR all along! And now it seems the Bishop and MMR have actually achieved their objective, as Huanan Fishery just offloaded fish on Rarotonga at $2.93 per kg for marlin, $3.58 for swordfish and oil fish, $3.44 for wahoo and moonfish, $2.58 for mahimahi, $2.15 for sailfish and Sugiyama and $3.29 for tuna, all including VAT.
