How can the political leaders of this country set good examples to the younger generation about respecting the rule of law and abiding to the country’s laws when Police Minister Teariki Heather continues to drive his $60,000-plus tax-funded Ford pickup with the front number plate deliberately removed? The only valid reason the number plate has been removed from this luxury Ford pickup is to minimise any further bad public relations.

Dear Editor, Reading the revelation by the minister Teina Bishop in CI News on Saturday 27 July about the sale and purchase of the Orongo and Bounty, it was clear that the Bishop purchased the Bounty to help previous owners and he still has a $43,000 debt hanging around his neck on his purchase of the Orongo, and not a good outcome for him.

Dear Editor, The response by True Blue Demos (Taking a clear stand, July 24) to our letter calling on the Leader of the Opposition to explain the source of authority to commit our party to a ‘no coalition government policy’ was most disheartening and unsatisfactory, to say the least.

Dear Editor, Reuben Tyler’s letter ‘Transparency and corruption’ in conjunction with your reporter’s article headed “Questions raised over Bounty sale”, both in the July 16 edition of CI News, takes the controversy on fishing in our national waters to a whole new level; it is no longer about fishing, it is about damaging Teina Bishop politically while he was off island and can’t defend himself, and a spectacle of the worst kind! Needless to say this attack on the Bishop overshadowed my own letter in the same edition of CI News ‘The best four dollar fish’, and good news that affordable and continuous supply of fish for our people may be just around the corner, which of course has been the objective of the Bishop and MMR all along! And now it seems the Bishop and MMR have actually achieved their objective, as Huanan Fishery just offloaded fish on Rarotonga at $2.93 per kg for marlin, $3.58 for swordfish and oil fish, $3.44 for wahoo and moonfish, $2.58 for mahimahi, $2.15 for sailfish and Sugiyama and $3.29 for tuna, all including VAT.

Dear Editor, Why is it, in the last three trips I’ve made to Atiu that there is no television or radio working in Atiu? Also, I was told that the two way radio for ship communication was in pieces on somebody’s desk.

Dear Editor, Every once in a while we meet people in our lives who make a difference. They make a difference to individuals and groups just by being who they are. I remember ‘seeing’ John Carter before meeting himthe wave out the window of his car and when he was running down the road, I would thinkdo I know this guy?
