Frame opinion and freedom of expression

Wednesday 11 November 2015 | Published in Letters to the Editor

Dear Editor, I listened with interest to CITV on Monday evening where some institution calling itself the Pacific Freedom Foundation was reported as taking Government to task about its gagging injunction of Dr Frame’s draft legal opinion, as just that very morning I had been discussing with you the extraordinary implications of this whole affair for freedom of expression.

Dear Editor, The grant agreement from New Zealand for Tereora College of $11.7 million, signed and sealed on November 5, just three months after John Key announced the grant at the 50th celebrations in August 2015, shows how the New Zealand government has a real commitment to helping the Cook Islands.

'Enlightened' by government info

Monday 9 November 2015 | Published in Letters to the Editor

Dear Editor, It seems like anyone can write a letter making false and speculative statements to incite hatred and then hide behind the anonymity of a nom-de-plume. I thought I may as well have a go at this.

Referendum was hardly a majority

Monday 9 November 2015 | Published in Letters to the Editor

Dear Editor, In the Cook Islands News dated November 6, the following statement concerning Sunday flights to and from Aitutaki was included, which is actually quite misleading – surely unintentionally.

Talking about corruption is not enough

Monday 9 November 2015 | Published in Letters to the Editor

Dear Editor, Your article on November 6, Anti-corruption moves rubbished, sheds light on the champion against corruption, Nandi Glassie, in his efforts to thwart corruption by travelling to St Petersburg again to deliver the same speech he did recently for the same reasons.

Press release misses vital information

Saturday 7 November 2015 | Published in Letters to the Editor

Dear Editor, I refer to the press release presumptuously suggesting no misconduct on the part of any government “officials” (no mention of “Ministers”) without sharing with us exactly what the nature was of the FIU questions referred to Crown Law.

Nikao school and the UN connection

Thursday 5 November 2015 | Published in Letters to the Editor

Dear Editor, For those of your readers who have consistently trashed our Prime Minister over his quest for United Nations membership and the bulldozing of Nikao school, you have more than a little egg on your face with the handover of $10 million from China for our new school.

Sir Tom's advice still relevant now

Thursday 5 November 2015 | Published in Letters to the Editor

Dear Editor: We hear so much about depopulation, usually from a negative perspective. I do not share in the negative views perhaps because I am a product of a Cook Islander exploring the world and taking advantage of opportunities offered elsewhere.

Marine park idea dead before it starts
