he COOK Islands could become the Geocaching capital of the South Pacific, thanks to a new tourism partnership. In a release yesterday Cook Islands Tourism Corporation in partnership with Downunder Travel Ltd announced an opportunity that could establish the Cook Islands as the Geocaching capital of the South Pacific. Jason Webb, Director of Downunder Travel Ltd North America, will be arriving in Rarotonga on November 16, and over a course of three days will be conducting presentations on Geocaching to various groups. He has dedicated November 17 to present to the public, so everyone will have the chance to learn more about the opportunity. The Tourism Corporation would like to invite interested parties, including Rotary, Churches, Youth Groups, NGOs, Government departments, and school delegates to the event. Geocaching is described as a Global Treasure Hunting Game using a GPS device or as an App on your smart phone. The position of your phone or GPS will find the nearest registered hidden treasure, known as a cache. In the cache, is a log book and trinkets that other Geocachers have left behind. As a registered Geocache member you sign the enclosed log book, take a trinket and leave a trinket.
