'Deliverer' of choice not available right now

Tuesday 5 June 2018 | Published in Local

Last week New Zealand prime minister Jacinda Ardern was asked which MPs she would trust to deliver her baby. "This is going to seem really obvious to me," the prime minister replied. "I'd just go straight for the women, naturally. I'd pick Tracey Martin and Carmel Sepuloni. Safe pair of hands." However, for the next week or so she won’t be able to rely on Tracey Martin’s “safe pair of hands” as Tracey is here on holiday with her husband Ben. Tracey was first elected to parliament as a New Zealand First list MP based in Warkworth, in 2011. She is passionate about opportunities for youth employment and she and her electorate staff have worked with local businesses, schools, ITOs and government departments to create the Business Linked Internship Scheme. Tracey has been a member of the Education and Science Select Committee and had her Member’s bill, Social Services (Orphans and Unsupported Children’s Clothing Allowance) Amendment Bill, passed with unanimous support at first reading and returned to the House from select committee, with a recommendation that it pass into law. A great believer in giving back to the community, Tracey spent most of her pre-parliament time on parent based fundraising and volunteer committees for Mahurangi Kindergarten, Warkworth Primary School and Mahurangi College. Tomorrow evening Tracey will speak at the Rotary Club of Rarotonga’s weekly meeting. She’ll be talking about seniors and sharing knowledge about positive ageing, but her coalition government experiences will no doubt be mentioned. Non-Rotarians are welcome to attend the dinner meeting. Call Mareko Boyd (55 250) or Jaewynn McKay (55 486) before midday on Wednesday. The cost for non-Rotarians is $25 and the meeting will be held at Coastal Kitchen in Tupapa. - JMcK
