Apii Te Uki Ou reflected on their huge success of a Gala Day which took place on Thursday from 12pm-5pm. It was a blazing hot day full of fun for the students as they shared with the community a wide range of unique, fun-filled stalls and activities.

Mark Harris, principal of the school, said that the gala was a massive success. “It is not only a great fundraiser for the school but an event that helps build our community spirit and brings families and friends together. This event is one of the biggest days of the year filled with fun, food and festivities.”

Harris shared that one of the most popular attractions of the day was the “can bungee” which essentially required any eager participants to run across a slippery, soap and water sprayed surface in an attempt to retrieve a soft drink sitting a few feet in front of them while being held back by a bungee rope.

“The opportunity to win a canned drink and have fun on a slip ‘n’ slide was fun for kids and also fun for spectators. We are very thankful to the Teimurimotia Fire Brigade for their water supply on such a hot day.”

Each of the different gala stalls were inspired by topics or themes that had been incorporated into the students’ learning. This meant that the students had the creative freedom to come up with whatever they wanted the gala to really be and to be the real drive behind the event as a whole.

“The gala is the culmination of the term’s Enterprise curriculum learning for the students. It was great to see the many creative ideas on display and these student stalls were a massive success. Congratulations to the students and their dedicated teachers for such dynamic business ideas,” said Harris.
