A landmark building that has been home to numerous restaurants over the years was torn down over the weekend.

Located near the airport entrance, the building last served as an Italian restaurant named Nonno Emilio Ristorante Italiano, which has been closed for some time.

The restaurant was built back in the early 2000s by Brett George and his partner Viana, who now live in Australia. When it first opened it was known as the Nu Bar and was highly popular with locals and visitors alike.

Yesterday Brett’s father, Norman George, said the site was earmarked for a “new business”, but wouldn’t be drawn on details.

He said Brett and Viana would be back on the island on Friday this week.
