The inaugural sport shoe drive launched by the Cook Islands Sports National and Olympic Committee (CISNOC) last month is gaining momentum.

The initiative is designed to get people, who have old sport shoes at home, to donate them to CISNOC so that they can gift them to those who need it.

CISNOC’s sport development officer Lauren Turner, who is spearheading this campaign, said: “We are in our first phase where we are accepting donations before making major plans for distribution.”

“We ideally want to get to a point where we can supply both Rarotonga locally and the Pa Enua, but we will need help from the community and more donations before we can get to this point.”

Donations can be dropped off at the CISNOC office, backroad Nikao. People who are interested to learn more about how to access or donate shoes can email admin@cisnoc.org.ck.

“That being said, the community is welcome to pop in to the CISNOC office anytime to see if we already have something that suit their needs,” Turner said.

“We will also be updating donated stock on Facebook in the upcoming month, so people can stay up to date with what we have by liking our Facebook page, Cook Islands Sports.”

Tuner said they have received about 20 pairs so far, a range of sizes, including regular sports shoes and soccer boots – but absolutely need more!
