In a statement, Moana Foundation founder, Jacqui Evans said there were 13 entries to the competition and the decision between the two finalists was very difficult.
“We received some very good designs and the final two were outstanding. In the end we went with the most popular design,” said Evans.
The competition was open to the Pacific region and launched on Earth Day, April 22, 2021.
The closing date for entries was June 24.
The winner of the competition is Rachael Suliana, an aircraft engineering student from Fiji.
Suliana’s design includes a coral and turtle which represent the vulnerability of ocean life as well as the wide range of ocean ecosystems from coral reefs to the open ocean across which a turtle migrates. The yellow, pear colour in the logo represents life, freshness, prosperity, balance and rebirth.
The green invokes healing and care. The logo may also be presented in blues representing the colours of the ocean.
