NES Director Halatoa Fua said he would update Cook Islands News on the situation no later than Tuesday.
The complaint was made by a man who lived close to the Sheraton Hotel who said there had been massive mudflows through the creeks on either end of the abandoned site.
Speaking to Cook Islands News the person said he saw, “huge mudflows going hundreds of metres out into the lagoon”.
“I've lived in that village a long time and I know that's not normal,” he said.
The complainant attributed the problem to heavy machinery road works at the top of the abandoned resort.
On Tuesday, Fua said NES had allocated a team from its Compliance and Technical teams to assess the impact of storm water runoff in the identified streams.
