This is the first Cook Islands Game Fishing Club (CIGFC) fishing competition of the year which is proudly sponsored by Vonnia’s and the Murray family.
Businesswoman Yvonne Heather of Vonnia’s, and the late Gordon Murray’s eldest daughter says, “we are looking forward to Saturday’s fishing competition which allows the fishermen to also use spears and handlines, and there are a lot of great prizes up for grabs.”
Unfortunately, due to Covid-19, this year the Murray family are not expecting family and friends to travel to Rarotonga for the event.
The fishing boats will start heading out from 6 am with the last weigh in at the fishing club at 6pm - prize giving will start at 7pm followed by a live band.
Last year, the Vaka Marumaru Atua captain Peia Patai won the Gordon Murray tournament with a 64.9 kg yellowfin tuna, taking home $1000 cash and a trophy, and seasoned fisherman Jason Tuara, walked away with the heaviest aggregate of 346.2kg.
You must be a member to enter the event and register at the CIGFC before Saturday, visit the club in Tupapa for more details.
