Thursday 26: Inspiring women tonight is an environmentalist, former school principal, mother and a proud Maukean.
June Hosking will be the guest speaker at Pan Pacific South East Asia Women’s Association meeting held at the Beachcomber.
Held monthly, the PPSEAWA gatherings host a wide range of “outstanding” Cook Islands women to inspire fellow women to achieve. A former Apii Te Uki Ou principal and a World Vision volunteer, Hosking now lives in Mauke with her husband Andrew. Together they are building a home as environmentally friendly and sustainable as possible. At present they have no electricity, sleep under tarpaulins and pump their own water.
Cook Islands PPSEAWA president Caroline Tiria says Hosking has not used the fact that she is a woman and the lack of income as an excuse to deter from realising her dream.
“PPSEAWA see her as an example and an inspiration to others that one can do anything if they have a will,” Tiria says.
“We are encouraged by her example of interaction with her community to care for the environment so that it will continue to sustain us.
Hosking will speak at tonight’s PPSEAWA meeting from 6pm at the Beachcomber in Avarua. - DK
