Tuesday 31: As its name suggests, La Bon Vivant is providing all the “good things in life” under one roof.

The newly opened Deli Foods store in Avarua is offering the same fresh product and high quality food and wine that has become synonymous with their parent company in Muri.

Store manager Tim Tierney says the French name was an accurate depiction of what they were about.

“It’s a description usually used to explain a person with rosy cheeks who loves wine and loves food,” Tierney says.

“We thought it was a good description of us and of what we offer,” he says.

La Bon Vivant opens from 8am to 5pm and caters from breakfast right through to dinner with an array of pastries and breads, freshly made coffee, cheeses, wines and quality cut meat.

Tierney says since they are open till 5pm and their location makes it ideal for people to drop in on their way home from work and pick up fresh export meat such as Angus tenderloin, Wagyu striploins and lamb rumps.

Also on offer is a wide range of French cheese, marinated olives, pasta, rice and grains which make La Bon Vivant unique to ordinary run-of-the mill food stores.

“Our products aren’t expensive, it’s different. We direct import a lot of our food so it’s products you won’t see on other shelves,” Tierney says.

Deli Foods also run the Fine Wine Club with an event scheduled tomorrow night at Pacific Resort.

Tierney and the head chef of Pacific Resort Felipe Ponce have been working together to produce a menu with Pacific cuisine which complements New Zealand wine, Pegasus Bay.

The Waipara wine company is a family owned business and marketing manager Edward Donaldson, son of founder Ivan Donaldson, will be attending the club night.

Tierney says their deli stores import many notable New Zealand wines and prices are reasonable and similar to their country of origin.

The Fine Wine Club’s annual fee is $55 which offers a 10 percent discount on all wines and invitations to special events such as the Pegasus Bay dinner.

La Bon Vivant is next to Moana Gems in Taputapuatea and is open from Monday to Saturday. - Dana Kinita
