With the largest primary school roll of just under 400 students, Apii Avarua inducted their 30 prefects at the school’s Punanga o Matakura Dome on Thursday morning.

Seventeen girls and 13 boys make up the student leaders’ group who are happy and proud to be chosen to assist in a leadership role at the school.

A newly-inducted prefect, Aumoana Inamata said: “It’s very honourable that the teachers have given us this opportunity to build up our confidence and leadership skills for Tereora next year, and this also gives me a chance to really be a good leader and think about my future next year at college.”

Another inductee Trinity Ponini admitted she felt very nervous at the ceremony.

“But I’m also so excited to face the challenges this year will bring in this role, so it’s good.”

Shekinah Tuakana felt proud to take on the leadership challenge and is hoping to be of great assistance to the young students.
