A 60-year-old man was killed following a crash in Atiu on Friday.

A 60-year-old man was killed following a crash in Atiu on Friday.

It was confirmed on Tuesday he was riding a motorcycle when he hit a dog and police believe alcohol and speed were factors.   

Police spokesperson Trevor Pitt said it was the fifth road death in the Cook Islands in 2021.

Two people have been killed on Rarotonga and the Friday incident brought the outer islands casualty number to three.  

Rarotonga police were notified of the incident at 10.30pm on Friday.
