As a lead up to Christmas and taking advantage of the abundance of flowers on the island, the Punanga Nui Market vendors have organised an ei making competition for this Friday December 17.

Organiser of the event Pastor Ngarima George said flowers are blooming all over the place and he wants people to get into creative island spirit and make an ei.

There are three ei katu categories: using only fresh flowers, using only leaves such as rauti - strictly no flowers, and an ei katu extravaganza - using any floral materials - fresh or everlasting (plastic).

The long ei competition has two categories: The most beautiful ei using fresh flowers, and the most creative and unusual ei.

Judging will start at the Punanga Nui Market from 7am.

Those who are participating in the event are asked to please present your ei to the organisers before 7am.

“Everyone is welcome to join in and we want to encourage those who are not that confident to give it a go and come along,” said George.

To register, contact Pastor George on phone 52263 or call the Punanga Nui office.
