A 21-year-old man is in custody and facing a burglary charge for allegedly stealing a carton of beer.

Police confirmed an arrest on Tuesday following the weekend incident.

The burglary was reported at an Arorangi shop early Sunday morning.

Police spokesman Trevor Pitt said the file was being finalised for prosecution on Wednesday for a court appearance but he was unsure when the man would appear. 

Security footage and other incriminating evidence had led to the arrest, but Pitt would not go into further detail about the matter.

Pitt reported a smashed glass door and damage also reported to an ATM nearby the scene of the burglary.
