A 32-year-old man has been arrested and charged with assaulting a child following an incident on Rarotonga.

A police spokesman confirmed the child is aged 15.

The arrest came following a call about a dispute on the Main Road at Betela.

The man was interviewed, subsequently arrested, and taken into custody where he remains pending a court date, the spokesman said.

In other incidents, an 18-year-old man was arrested and charged with dangerous driving and failing to stop on demand following an incident on Sunday evening.

Police said he was taken into custody, and would likely be appearing in court on Thursday after he was pursued by police from Kent Hall in Titikaveka to Muri.

He’d been observed speeding, soon after 5.30pm on a motorcycle.

Police officers said he was observed driving dangerously and overtaking several vehicles to avoid being caught.

A 37-year-old woman was arrested and charged with theft on Saturday, following an investigation into a theft complaint just over a week ago.

The woman was apprehended for the alleged theft of pot plants and flowers from Tupapa and is expected to appear in court on Thursday.

Police said there had been a number of noise complaints and domestic disturbances attended to over the weekend.

There had been an early morning recovery by ambulance of an injured man, who had suffered a fall and was disoriented on a walk home while, five people driving motorbikes were each fined $250 for failing to wear a safety helmet.
