In brief: Court news
Cook Islands High Court. 12081330

A number of people facing charges in the Criminal Court at Rarotonga have had them thrown out but will remain on a watch list as they are overseas.

Their names and charges were presented to Justice of the Peace John Whitta on Thursday who asked if any of them were contravening bail.

The police prosecutor said none of them were contravening bail before JP Whitta withdrew the matters.

“The defendants moved overseas before the matters could be resolved, there is little point in pursuing them.”

Police confirmed afterwards that the names had been flagged so anyone on the list intending to return to the Cook Islands, would still have to face the charges.

The names on the list included, Daniel Ioane (excess blood alcohol), Joshua Koteka (assault on a female/common assault), Tabitha Mataroa (careless driving), David Vaevaemaki (assault on a female), Robert Tunupopo (failure to pay fine) and Sven Ake Afsenius (careless driving).
