Talimealahi Tuileila appeared in the Criminal Court on Thursday where he entered guilty pleas to assaulting a female (x2), breaching a police safety order and contempt of court.
Defence lawyer Norman George asked for probation to look at the situation, given he lived with his partner and the couple had four children – the youngest being three-weeks old.
“I ask for the intervention of probation, there is hope for them,” George said.
“I feel we can do this another way, a better way to deal with this, get all the facts detailing their lives.
“When it comes back to court it will be resolved.”
Tuileila was jailed for more than two months on January 13, following mounting frustration in court.
The defendant appeared in court on December 23, 2021, charged with assaulting a female and breaching a police safety order.
He breached bail the following day.
On January 8, 2022, he bought alcohol and refused to give police an explanation.
He breached bail a second time on January 8 and was taken into police custody.
Justice of the Peace John Whitta in sentencing Tuileila to nine weeks prison on January 13, said, in looking at the defendant’s criminal history, he had 14 contempt of court charges, seven of those alcohol related, and 16 breaches of probation, all but one alcohol related.
Justice of the Peace Georgina Keenan-Williams, on Thursday, noted guilty pleas had been entered, and ordered a probation report.
The matter was adjourned to April 7.
