A second person who allegedly breached Covid-19 rules is still awaiting their day in Court.

Police spokesman Trevor Pitt confirmed that after Wednesday’s conviction of Peter Albert Pokipoki, in the Criminal Court in Avarua, there was another person who was still going through the court system.

Pokipoki travelled to Aitutaki after returning two positive Covid-19 tests. He was fined $1000 for breaching the Public Health Act on April 22.

“The other travelled to Aitutaki on Saturday 23 April, again after returning a positive test,” Pitt said.

The alleged Covid-19 breach was reported to Te Marae Ora (TMO) on April 28.

Cases adjourned

Four items at Court have been adjourned to June 9, pending further information.

Justice of the Peace Vania Kenning presided over matters at the Criminal Court in Avarua on Thursday.

A man with interim name suppression up on a common assault charge, was adjourned to June 9 due to his defence counsel Norman George not being available.

Meanwhile, Tekura Davina Areai, facing a theft as a servant charge, Tamara Andrew Bullen, facing a breach of a protection order, and Ngatokoa Elikana, facing charges of careless driving causing injury and driving with excess blood alcohol, were all adjourned to June 9, because their lawyer, Mark Short, had not received full disclosure.

Thursday’s Court also featured 19 individuals who were up for either failing to pay a fine or failing to produce a driver’s licence.
