Thursday 26: SMOKE SIGNALS Mind boggling logic

The smoke signal came yesterday from a business person:

The DPM may be indeed disappointed in the Chamber’s criticism, but there are also many many Iti Tangata, who are also taxpayers, who are likewise disappointed in government, and how they are running this country down, not only in the present time, but also for the future generations.

Just how the DPM and his two wise men advisers can continue to focus on the 2% interest rate, with grace periods, etc, etc, but which insists on Chinese labour, and Chinese materials exclusively, and ignore a higher interest rate but which would have given the entire labour and material contract to COOK ISLANDERS, is absolutely mind boggling.

The PAYE as well as VAT tax components are the lifeblood of any economy, but the way these financial geniuses did the deal, not only is the country missing out on those economic generators, but locals are still leaving the islands in droves, because there is little incentive for them to stay.

All the DPM and his minions can see is what initially looks like a cheap money deal, shake hands and look smug in their five-star hotel cocktail lounge, but which will in time cost far more in real terms.

Unfortunately these decision-makers go on to other things, and leave the mess behind to be cleaned up by someone else. Now that’s disappointing.

If only they could be made accountable.
