Dear Editor, In 1977-78, I was a member of the crew of the British yacht Debenhams, participating in the second Whitbread Round the World Race (these days called the Volvo Ocean Race), joining a fleet of 14 other participants. The yachts raced Portsmouth - Cape Town - Auckland - Cape Horn - Rio - Portsmouth.
