In the Open category, Aitutaki’s athletes have so far secured 16 gold, 22 silver, and 12 bronze medals, dominating many events. They also excelled in the Youth division, winning 7 gold, 17 silver, and 18 bronze medals, while their Masters team added another 9 gold medals to the tally.
Aitutaki’s dominance in the 2024 Cook Islands Games continues to grow, solidifying their position as the top favourite to win the overall title. With exceptional performances across multiple categories, they have consistently shown their prowess and strategic approach to the games. Not far behind are Mitiaro, Mangaia, and Rarotonga, all vying for the overall win in the Cook Islands Games 2024.
In the Under-18 beach volleyball division, Aitutaki clinched the gold medal, further proving their strength in youth sports. The island’s athletes also delivered a strong performance in the masters volleyball category, taking bronze, while in the Under-14 division, they secured silver.
Coach P. David Junior, for the U18 gold medalists, stated, “I’m very proud of my team. Most of them played seniors back home in Aitutaki, and I am happy they handled themselves well in that final.”
Aitutaki’s strategic focus is now on the upcoming events, with key competitions like boxing, netball, open volleyball, and rugby sevens still ongoing.
Badminton, beach volleyball opens, boxing, cricket, cycling, football, lawn bowls and touch events continue today.
