Tupapa Maraerenga FC is looking forward to representing the Cook Islands with pride in the 2025 OFC Men’s Champions League from March 30 to April 12 in Honiara, Solomon Islands.

The Rarotonga club earned its spot in the upcoming OFC Men’s Champions League after coming from behind to secure a 2-1 victory over Samoa’s Vaipuna SC on Friday.

The match, which was filled with drama and intensity, was held in front of an enthusiastic and vocal home crowd at the CIFA Complex in Matavera.

Tupapa Maraerenga’s win was a testament to the team’s resilience and determination.

After Vaipuna’s Timoteo Lesatele gave them an early lead in the 9th minute, Tupapa responded with two quick goals, both courtesy of striker Jake McCoy, the first in the 27th minute and the second just before halftime.

Despite strong pressure from Vaipuna in the second half, Tupapa held firm, thanks to a stellar performance from goalkeeper Manaariki Pierre, and secured the win that sealed their qualification.

Following the hard-earned victory, Tupapa Maraerenga FC captain Grover Harmon expressed his immense pride in the team’s commitment and efforts throughout the qualifying campaign.

“I’m super proud of the boys and everything we’ve put into this tournament so far,” Harmon said. “It’s been a lot of hard work, but every player has given it their all.”

“We’ve come together as a team, and now we look forward to the next stage with confidence. The team is motivated and ready to take on the challenge ahead.”

Harmon also acknowledged the support from their passionate fans, who were vocal throughout the tournament.

“Having the fans behind us has been incredible. Their energy really pushes us to give our best, and we’re grateful for their continued support,” he added.

With the OFC Men’s Champions League now on the horizon, Tupapa's training sessions have shifted into overdrive. The team understands that the competition in the Solomon Islands will be fierce, and they are leaving no stone unturned in their preparations.

While the players celebrate their qualification, they are also fully aware of the extra work needed to succeed on the international stage.

Tupapa Maraerenga FC coach Tuka Tisam emphasised the importance of the upcoming preparations as the team aims to sharpen their skills.

“We know we’re up against some of the best teams in the region, so we have to step up our game,” said Tisam. “We are already focusing on improving our fitness, refining our tactics, and working on team chemistry. Our players are committed, and I’m confident we’ll be ready for the challenge.”

The team is eager to represent Tupapa-Maraerenga FC and the Cook Islands on the international stage and is already looking ahead to the challenge of Group B in the Solomon Islands.

With the unwavering commitment from both the players and coaching staff, Tupapa-Maraerenga FC is determined to make their mark in what promises to be an exciting OFC Men’s Champions League tournament.
