Slowly getting into gear, in the first 20 minutes of this epic battle, the western warriors tried to stay in the game against the advancing mighty men in maroon.
Matavera forward Ron Rai made many attempts at Puaikura goal but Edmund Tupuna stood tall. Eventually Rai slipped through and managed to score to help the home side win 7-1.
On Friday, Tupapa Maraerenga defeated Avatiu 3-1 while Nikao Sokattak thumped Titikaveka 6-0.
In the Islander senior women’s division, Puaikura defeated Matavera 2-1.
Matavera took charge of the match with skillful winger Tearoa Rouru scoring the opener. But Puaikura quickly recovered and regained possession with Esther Potoru and Rai Nganu dominating upfront.
Youngster Teupoko Tuariki equalised for Puaikura before the visitors scored another to win the match 2-1.
In the midweek matches, Tupapa versus Avatiu clash ended in a nil-all draw while Titikaveka defeated Nikao Sokattak 2-0.
Today, Nikao Sokattak FC and Titikaveka’s BSP U15 Boys will play their round seven match at Nikao Field, at 4pm.
