This dynamic duo has an impressive history of working together, bringing years of experience and success to the national stage.
Their coaching journey began with the Tupapa youth girls U15s from 2021 to 2024, where they served as assistant coaches, culminating in a championship win during the 2024 round and knockout stages.
In 2023, they further cemented their reputation by guiding the Tupapa U18 women’s team to victory at the Kia Orana Youth Festival, claiming the championship title. In 2024, they also led the U15 Girls Development Tour Team, further strengthening their impact on youth football development in the Cook Islands.
On the international stage, their experience has been invaluable. They were part of the coaching team for the 2023 OFC U16 Women’s Championship in Tahiti and again in 2024 at the OFC U16 Women’s Championship in Suva, Fiji. Now, they are set to lead the team in 2025 for the OFC U16 Women’s Qualifiers right here in the Cook Islands alongside their team management Teahi Wuatai (team manager) and Kimi Turuibewa (assistant manager), ensuring that every aspect of the squad’s preparation runs smoothly.
Reflecting on their coaching philosophy and partnership, assistant coach Claudine Robati shares: “Like the saying goes, you learn something new every day in life. It’s the same in coaching. Tupou and I learn from each other, and when we come together with a new group of talented players, we adapt our sessions and work together to ensure our players get the best from us.”
“We are always striving to help them understand what we’re working towards. Challenges will arise, but there is always a solution, and I think Tupou and I work well together in finding them.”
Their goals for the upcoming tournament extend beyond tactical preparation. They are dedicated to ensuring that the players are physically and mentally prepared, fostering a strong team culture both on and off the field.
When asked how this tournament contributes to the growth of women’s football in the Cook Islands, they emphasised the vital role it plays in nurturing talent and developing youth players.
“These tournaments serve as a breeding ground for talent, not just in women’s football but across all youth categories. Young players gain the opportunity to refine their skills in a competitive environment that pushes them to their limits, ultimately elevating their game.
“Beyond improving their abilities, these experiences instill discipline, determination and teamwork – values that carry over into all aspects of life.”
As the Cook Islands gears up for this exciting tournament, Brogan and Robati remain steadfast in their commitment to developing the next generation of footballers.
“With their expertise and unwavering passion for the sport, the future of women’s football in the Cook Islands looks brighter than ever,” CIFA said.
