The run will take place on Saturday, May 28 at 4pm for walkers and 5pm for runners. Participants start and finish at Cafe Jireh located opposite the airport.
Vice president of the organisation, Tina Iro said a home was already purchased by Works With Faith for the elderly person living in extremely poor conditions. Proceedings from the “run” will be used to pay it off.
So far 49 people have signed up for the event.
Iro said she would be happy with $5000 raised but $10,000 would be nice.
She said the organisation had done several fundraisers in the past but this was its first fun run.
“If we get the momentum going this could be an annual thing, I just need to see how this one kicks off.”
Works With Faith which has been running for over six years focuses on supporting vulnerable people.
“Which is mothers and children, and also elderly, so anyone that’s vulnerable or destitute or really struggling at the lowest point with poverty issues, those are the ones that we focus on,” Iro said.
The organisation also help households without power (electricity), bathroom and running water.
Iro said it had built strong relationships with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Woman of the Month Committee who also share the same vision to assist families and elderly in need.
