The 53 strong Yellow Bellies golden oldies rugby team from Hamilton, New Zealand are visiting Rarotonga for the third time.

Manager and founder of the team Fritz Lang is the eldest of the Yellow Bellies at 71, he established the group in 1981.

The team has travelled to many countries around the globe, their first trip to Rarotonga was in 1993, and the second in 1997.

On Saturday the team played an entertaining rugby match with the Avatiu/Nikao Mongoose golden oldies group at Avatiu.

Mongoose captain George aka “General” Williamson chose the only female player on the field Gina Terongamau as the player of the match.

Williamson said the Golden Oldies is in the spirit of fun, friendship and fraternity.

As president of Men’s Health, Williams would like to encourage more men to “keep moving and invest in healthy living” so they can live longer and mobile lives.

For many men who have played sport when they were younger and don’t maintain their health and fitness, it affects them when they are older, said Williamson.

This Saturday the New Zealand parliamentarians First XV rugby squad will play a robust game of rugby against the Cook Islands parliamentarians at Muri.

“It is important for men to keep active and look after themselves and their health,” said Williamson.
