The second round of the Cook Islands Rugby Union Rarotonga Club 15s competition promises to be a cracker as the undefeated Avatiu Nikao Eels take on defending champions Tupapa Panthers at Teimurimotia Park this afternoon.

Titikaveka Bulldogs shocked Arorangi Bears in the first match of round two yesterday afternoon at the “Kennel”.

The last time these two teams met this season in round one, the Bears won by 45-17. However, the resurgent Bulldogs, who lost all three matches in round one, have shown significant improvement, defeating the Bears 21-19 at home.

Yesterday’s closely contested clash between the neighbours set the stage for another intense derby to be played this afternoon.

The highly anticipated clash between the premier giants Panthers and the Eels will kick off at 4pm.

This match is expected to be one of the season’s highlights. The Panthers, the 2023 champions, have faced two defeats this season – 13-16 against the Eels in week one and 3-13 against Arorangi Bears.

The pressure will be on the Panthers to secure a win and restore confidence as the season progresses.
