The Tupapa Panthers showcased a strong performance at the Papeete 7s in French Polynesia, displaying skill and determination throughout the tournament.

In their final pool match on Saturday, they dominated Pirae Rugby Club with a convincing 40-0 victory. This commanding win propelled them into the semi-finals with momentum and confidence.

In the semi-final, the Panthers faced the Eagles, a seasoned French Polynesian side. The match proved to be a tough contest, with both teams locked in a defensive battle and neither side able to break the deadlock.

It wasn’t until the final minute that Tupapa found a breakthrough, with a decisive try sealing their place in the final. The Panthers clinched the semi-final with a narrow 5-0 win, showcasing their resilience and ability to perform under pressure.

In the final, Tupapa Panthers met a formidable opponent in the 7 Fantastics, a well-drilled French team.

Despite their best efforts, the Panthers struggled against the experienced French side, who ultimately took the match 17-5. While the loss was heartbreaking, the team’s performance throughout the tournament was commendable.

Standout players like Jason Putoru, who showed exceptional pace and agility, Colati Ravula with his tactical vision and leadership, and Billson Sewa’s defensive skills played pivotal roles in the campaign. Rookie Brian Akava also made a significant impact, gaining valuable experience.

Captain Ravula reflected on the team’s journey, saying, “We made the finals but fell short; however, we have gained so much experience at a regional level playing against clubs from Tahiti and France. I hope we’ve made those at home proud.”

The Tupapa Panthers return home with a wealth of experience, eager to build on their performance and continue their development in the sevens rugby arena.
