International Olympic Committee president Thomas Bach will be visiting Rarotonga today as part of a whistlestop meet and greet tour of the Cook Islands.

Bach, who was elected president of the IOC in 2013, will arrive on a chartered flight this morning along with several other IOC executive members.

The first engagement will be to meet the Cook Islands Head of State, His Excellency Sir Tom Marsters and Lady Marsters, at a lunch reception held in President Bach’s honour at the Nautilus Resort.

This will be attended by small group of invited guests including the Cook Islands Sports and National Olympic Committee (CISNOC) executive board.

Bach will also meet Cook Islands Prime Minister Mark Brown, and visit the National Stadium and the Cook Islands Volleyball Beach Courts, where Bach will meet members of the Athletes’ Commission.

The President of Cook Islands Volleyball Akaiti Purea will also make a presentation to President Bach on behalf of the volleyball “family”. Later that evening, there will be a special dinner function at Crown Beach Resort.

Bach will depart Rarotonga on Friday morning.
