Competing against international teams from New Zealand and Australia they have proven they are not to be underestimated.
In their latest clash at the National Sports Arena in Nikao, Team Orange narrowly lost to Blitz, one of the top teams, with a close 19-17 scoreline however, they are proving to be a top contender in the final five playoffs. Meanwhile, other results in the mixed division saw Downtown Fiji defeating Broconuts 15-10 and dominating Motueka Pick N Mix 22-4, further intensifying the race for top standings.
Reflecting on Team Orange’s journey, player Jason Lindsay shared his pride in their performance.
“The competition’s going really well. We’re plodding through some really good players and getting great support from our female players, especially the seasoned netballers,” he said.
Tournament director Ngere Puia acknowledged the competitive spirit in the mixed division, where games are played in two fast-paced 10-minute halves. “Players are going full-on from the first whistle. There’s no time to ease into the game, so teams are making every second count,” she said.
With Blitz, Ulalei, and Papua leading the standings, Team Orange remains in contention for a top-five finish.
“This is the best competition we get every year,” said Lindsay. “It’s a huge opportunity for local players to grow their game against Aussie and New Zealand players.”
Puia also commended the dedication of the umpires.
“A huge shout-out to our umpires. It’s a tough job, but they’re keeping the tournament running smoothly,” she said.
With play-offs starting tomorrow and finals set for Thursday, Team Orange’s strong showings and local pride could carry them far. Regardless of the outcome, they’ve proven the potential of Rarotonga’s players on the big stage.
